There was once a monkey that lived on an island, located in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The monkey had been left there by a wayward traveler, along with the rest of his family.
For several days, he and his family had explored the island, finding shelter, water and food. They had managed to build some makeshift shelter in trees to safeguard against the rainy weather. The rain they collected in leaves had provided them with the necessary hydration.
The one conundrum they had left was finding enough food. Even though they managed to get by consuming some seed and fruit they saw some birds eating, the fruit wasn´t enough to sustain them.
Hoping to find a solution, the monkey decided to take a walk around the island and see whay he could learn from the other island creatures.
The first creature he encountered was a butterfly. He saw the butterfly land on a flower on the ground and suck the inside of it before taking flight to a neighboring flower and repeating the process. Curious, the monkey picked a flower from the ground and introduced a finger in it, bringing said finger to his mouth.
Almost instantaneously, the monkey stuck his tongue out, rubbing the back of his paws against it. Clearly, flowers were not the solution to his family´s troubles.
The monkey kept walking through the jungle until he came across a snake in the distance. The monkey knew snakes from his homeland but was curious as to what snakes on this island ate. It watched the snake silently prepare to strike. The terrified monkey ran off from the gorish scene before him.
Eventually, the monkey arrived at the beach and was finally able to calm down. He observed some funny looking men in the distance that were watching in the ocean and throwing what looked like a stick in the water. Every so often, the men would cheer and toss an object in the basket. Intrigued, the monkey climbed the tree to ger a closer look at the men and figure out what they were doing.
From his vantage point, he could see that they were using sharp sticks to spear fish and collecting them in baskets. The men stayed deathly still, letting the curious fish get close to them. Then, with the stick poise angled just above the ocean surface, they would strike, spearing the fish and throwing them in a basket. After a while, the men made a fire and started to burn their feast. The monkey decided to take the opportunity to steal a fish from their spoils.
The monkey tasted the raw fish, finding it deliciously filling. Excited, the monkey ran home with the fish in hand to share his findings with his family and celebrate their new found survival.
