Artist Statement

I didn’t have to consider this prompt on the values of nature for very long before I thought of the turkey vulture. To me, the turkey vulture’s ethical lessons are about enjoying life’s simple pleasures, recognizing that all creatures are mortal, and living lightly on this Earth by not wasting anything. I love watching the turkey vulture’s teetering, v-shaped wings as they ride the wind currents, and I appreciate that in their consumption of dead animals, they ensure that the biological cycles of life continue to turn.
